At Star College Durban Primary, we believe in nurturing not only the minds of our learners but also the hearts of the families who support them. On a special Friday afternoon, we opened our doors and hearts to the incredible mothers of our school community — from those caring for newborns as young as three months to those guiding our Grade 7 learners — for a meaningful event filled with appreciation, relaxation, and inspiration.
The event began with a warm welcome and a powerful motivational talk by renowned life coach Tilly Govender. With her calm presence and insightful words, she gently reminded every woman in the room of her strength and purpose. Reading an excerpt from her published poetry anthology, she delivered the powerful message that “Mothers shape society,” encouraging our guests to know themselves, grow themselves, and embrace their personal journeys with confidence and grace.
Our guests were also treated to a practical and thoughtful gift — a sponsored dental assessment courtesy of Dr Dineshree Govender and her team from Jamaica Dental. This generous contribution highlighted the importance of caring for both physical and emotional well-being.
To add a touch of indulgence to the day, BS Beauty Studios kindly sponsored head and shoulder massages, giving our mums the opportunity to relax and enjoy a few moments of peace and pampering.
The room was filled with laughter and joy as our guests participated in interactive games that tested their memory and listening skills — two areas where mothers truly shine! These light-hearted activities brought smiles, connection, and a little friendly competition to the afternoon.
No gathering is complete without food and fellowship, and our event ended on a heartwarming note with a bring-and-share tea. Mothers connected over delicious treats, warm conversations, and a shared sense of community and gratitude.
We are truly grateful to all the mums who joined us and brought their energy, warmth, and love to the event. A heartfelt thank you also goes to our generous sponsors — Tilly Govender, Jamaica Dental, and BS Beauty Studios — for making this afternoon possible.
At Star College Durban Primary, we recognise and celebrate the vital role mothers play in shaping our learners, our community, and the future. This event was a small way for us to give back to the women who give so much every day.
Thank you, Star Mums, for being the heart of our school!

At Star College Durban Primary, we believe in cultivating a lifelong love for reading—and today, that love came to life in the most magical way! We had the honour of hosting South African children’s author Michelle Linde, known on Instagram as @storiesbyshelley, for a special reading session with our learners from Grades RRR to Grade 4.
Michelle captivated our young audience with her beautifully written and illustrated books:
🌟 A Big Plate of Kindness – a heartwarming tale about compassion and the ripple effects of a kind gesture.
🦆 The Duck Who Wished for Webbed Feet – an inspiring story about self-acceptance, confidence, and being proud of who you are.
Her animated storytelling brought the characters to life, sparking joy, laughter, and meaningful reflection in every classroom. Learners were completely immersed, asking thoughtful questions and sharing their own experiences after the readings. It was a truly memorable moment that reminded us all of the power of books and storytelling.
Events like this are not just fun—they are part of our school’s core mission. At Star College Durban Primary, we place a strong emphasis on early literacy and creativity. Author visits help learners see themselves as storytellers, dreamers, and future writers, while reinforcing important values such as kindness, courage, and self-belief.
Our commitment to academic excellence goes hand in hand with creating joyful, engaging learning experiences. Whether through books, music, or science, we want our learners to discover the magic in every subject.
Star College Durban prioritizes literacy, character-building, and holistic education.
At Star College Durban, we don’t just teach lessons—we inspire dreams, one story at a time.
