SCHOOL HISTORY

Our Star College Primary School is nestled in the quiet and beautiful suburb of Westville North. We are situated at 20 Kinloch Avenue, Westville North.

Horizon Educational Trust (No I TRUST 11837/98), founded in 1998, has played a significant and extensive role in fostering a good relationship between South Africa and Turkey in the educational, cultural and social fields.

The first Star College School was opened in Cape Town and the second school in Johannesburg. On the 26th January 2002, Horizon Educational Trust officially launched it third school in Kwa- Zulu Natal, Durban, Star College Primary and High School. At that time, Star Primary had only 4 learners in Grade 1 and 16 learners in the Boys High School. The first school Principal was Mr. Yasar Yesilyurt who was also the Regional Director of HET in KZN. It was his dedication and diligence that guided Star Primary and High School through the difficulties of its fledgling year.

In 2004, the name of the school was changed to Star College and a new logo that encapsulated the ethos of the school was unveiled. “Akil, Beden, Ruh” which means “Mind, Body and Soul” was and still is a slogan to motivate the learners. Our ethos is to inculcate a desire to learn, to participate and to compete at the highest level to fulfill one’s potential. To take a keen and genuine interest in sporting and cultural activities and motivated in all aspects of life.

The second principal of the institution was Mr. Faruk Turkmen (2003-2008) who worked very hard to make the Star College as one of the best and well established school in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

After the inauguration of the Boys High School on the 26th March 2010, the boys moved to their new premises and the Primary and Girls High remained at the original school premises.

In 2002 we had 4 learners and presently there are 125 learners in the Junior Primary phase and 147 learners in our Senior Primary phase. Our current school principal is Mr. E. Ozkaya, who encourages and motivates our learners and staff to achieve their goals and realize their potential.

Star College teaches the learners to participate effectively, think independently and question critically.
